Behind the design: Cloud Pocket tee

Anyone who knows me, knows that I am a big fan of pocket tees as well as clouds. So for this tee I thought why not combine both of these elements into a clean design that I would like to wear myself. A lot of the stuff that I make stems simply from me wanting to wear something that does not quite exist on the market and hoping that other traceurs will want to wear it too.

I like to do things in a very hands on manner, so I foolishly took on the challenge of doing a completely in-house, cut and sew job for the entire run of t-shirts. Doing it in-house has the advantage of allowing us to customise every little detail from the type of fabric we use to the size and shape of the pocket right down to the design of the stitching. After some trial and error I worked out that I could integrate our brand initials "N" and "W" in the reinforcement stitching of the pocket. This is a very subtle detail that most people will not even notice, but if the wearer knows it is there, than that is what counts. We are all about the details here at Novel Ways.

The back print between the shoulder blades were heavily influenced by a few cloud/smoke designs I found pictured below.

From there a very rough sketch was done to prove the concept and then the design was illustrated from scratch on Adobe Illustrator.
